The Pitmen Painters Depart

Lee Hall's The Pitmen Painters plays its final performance at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

The Pitmen Painters is based on the true story of a group of Northumbrian miners who signed on for a course in art appreciation in 1934. While continuing their daily work underground, they went on to form friendships with the leading avant-garde painters of the day and to become sought-after artists themselves.
